Who We Are

We are a group of individuals who love soccer and have played at different levels in the past and/or organized many tournaments in the past.

All of us have been engaged, most of our lives, in providing soccer opportunities for youth and their families regardless of ethnicity, nationality, gender and/or their financial ability to sign up for teams, buy uniforms and/or transport themselves to practices or games. Many of us have transported more kids to games and such than many bus companies.

After looking at the real opportunities that exist and lack of international events in New England, we decided to get together and organize the first, ever, International Youth Soccer Tournament. We decided to call it  "The Americana Friendship Cup" based on the fact that it will take place in the United States of America and it is sponsored by the Americana Soccer Organization which has existed since 1990.

Of course nothing can be done without the support of our city and its officials. We are proud to inform that our Mayor Bill Finch has personally written a letter of welcome to all players and expressed his hapiness for the initiative that we have taken and has opened the gates of the city to all athletes from all over the world to come and spend this few days with us and our community in the spirit of friendship, health and good competition.

Our partners or friends, besides the city of Bridgeport, are the Paugussett Indian Nation, Optimus Health, American Red Cross, University of Bridgeport, Americana Soccer and the Bridgeport Independent Soccer League.
All together wil make this dream come true.

The team.
Our Tournament

We expect a high level of competition, therefore we reserve the right to select the teams who will compete at the tournament.

Americana "Friendship" Cup will register any team regardless of country  of origin. We would like, however, to have the teams provide us with a brief history of accomplishements, tournament participation and other information you would like to share with us. This way we can determine the level of play of your team and place your team in the appropriate group.

We espect to have teams coming from Europe, Latin America, Canada and Africa.

The Pastora Cup

In order to ensure the quality and competitiveness of the tournament and fairness to all teams, we have arranged a pre-tournament for all new squads, even those without much experience in these intensive competitions, so everyone can test their strength and prepare for their upcoming "test of fire".

For those local teams wishing to participate there will be a qualifying round-robin  type tournament that will take place on the week-end of June 12 - 13, 2010 at the Purple Knights field of the University of Bridgeport.

We wil offer 16 spots and the same number of teams with the highest points will qualify for the International Americana Cup.

Teams can be made of players of appropriate age regardless of place of residence.

The registration fee for the Pastora Cup is US$375.
